« To be or not to be. That is the question » William Shakespeare

I found that the title of this piece Hamlet by William Shakespeare, is appropriate for my article and to learn more enter the heart of the subject.

 

First of all, hello

In my previous article you can read here I told you create a garment is the only way I’ve found to escape me every day of my reality N'sqol - Créer un vêtement and the outfit of today is a continuation of that philosophy when I build a look.

There are times in life when we have more desire to play a character and feel the need to live in an epoch and phantasied period (this is not a fault of the writing as well) so today I present a set that I could put and was inspired by two recent films seen and that I loved and that I wanted to play as one of the female characters.

Play a character that is not necessarily deny himself and omit through her clothing to say who we are.

Play a character that is to excel, go get that other « we » that is not us and that is crouches in the depths of our being until we have the will and especially the temerity to let it out.

The outfit of today thus was inspired by three women seen in the following two films.

The first is Mary of Scotland is a 1936 film by John Ford with Katharine Hepburn and the other is Hamlet, released in 1948, taken from Shakespeare’s piece by and starring Laurence Olivier, Jean Simmons and the wonderful Jean Simmons and Eileen Herlie.

In both movies the power of women is indisputable.

They are hard, passionate, intriguing, beautiful, maleficent.

They are both impetuous and reckless and for time were feminist long before the hour. In both movies the female characters embody and assert a desire for absolute freedom while being in a submissive love that will lead them to their doom.

The strength of a fiction plays in the suits who become alone necessarily a character and I was fascinated by the drama emanating from their clothes.

I like there to be a certain theatricality in the garment without falling into a clown made and I must say that in terms of theatrical costumes I was served with these two films.

Imbued with all that I have built a look that is both modern and ancient, borrowing some code to both films and by making especially not to fall into the overbid which is a stylistic design principle for me.

The first set is a tribute to these two films and the second as you can see is more contemporary while adding a slight little outdated touch.

Being a photographer I also charged with ensuring that the catch is theatrical keeping the same guideline and the result I liked enough.

Before leaving you in pictures I share with you one of the mythical scenes from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet
